Hello, my fellow ungodly peeps. For those who want to cut right to the chase, here's the scoop: rE\dOx and LadyDev are going their separate ways; yes, this time for good. Consequently, the (red-headed step) child conceived by rE\dOx and adopted by LadyDev, otherwise known as, The Ungodly Hour, has sprouted wings and decided to fly. (Thank you)x1,000,000,000 to all lisTUHners, labels, artists, djs that supported and/or enjoyed the show; it was a fun ride, wasn't it?
Here's the long version:
Can you guess how many times I backspaced to get this rolling?
What began as a mere, "it would be cool if..." turned into something I never imagined. When the show started I would get local people calling the station and commenting on how much they enjoyed it After putting the show online, those comments expanded from North America to continents around the globe; apparently, ungodliness is not relegated to one area of the third rock from the sun. :-) I always wanted to make the show better. This was done by setting up interviews, getting artists to do an ID for the show, reading funny/interesting/stupid stories, updating you on the latest movie we watched, having people call in, live spinning ("spinach"), live chat, making out with sgtsawtooth, and, of course, the rants. TUH was a way for LD and myself to talk to others that (might) feel pretty pissed off about what's going on around them. Interestingly, there were quite a few people that echoed our sentiments and voiced them accordingly! To my surprise, the amount of love mail FAR outweighed the hate mail; it's probably because a moral majority group never got a hold of TUH.
Can I give you a list of highlights that stand out in my mind? Frankly, no, I'll leave that up to you ungodly critters. ;-) I enjoyed every show I made, whether I was tired, angry, bloated, pms'ing, or unprepared. Speaking of which, I thoroughly enjoyed the live aspect of the show; even when the show was pre-recorded...it was recorded live in one shot, no piecing together. It gave it the raw edge most radio is missing today, and the spontaneity it brought with it was what attracted most of you to listen.
One my favorite things about the show is that it made people feel something; whether they were pissed at us for talking about things considered taboo or whether they raised their fists and said, “Hell, yeah! Preach it!” We've become numb in this world, and being part of something that wakes people up or at least makes them shift uncomfortably was great for me.
I've been asked numerous times, “How do you keep doing it, week after week?” It was my way of releasing, plain and simple. Then, once we had so many faithfuls tuning in week after week, that too became a motivating factor.....crazy, ungodly mother fuckers. The artwork/pictures/designs sent our way were amazing! That people would spend time to do that really made me all mushy inside.
What happened? Why the end? The proverbial, “All good things must come to an end,” definitely applies here. TUH has taken enough breaks/hiatuses/endings. This red-head is ready to grow up and move off to college; his parents are dysfunctional, and he no longer wants anything to do with them. hahaha Seriously, though, like any relationship that ends, I am only going to take the good from this. I have so many fond memories, that they will last me a lifetime, and if I ever feel the inkling to get some more, I can just start listening to past shows. Similarly, I will say the same about myself and LadyDev. We're great friends, had fantastic chemistry on-air, and I will cherish the great memories I have. It was time for each of us to grow apart, as hard as that is to do.
So, there you have it. TUHers. Now, it's your turn to continue the ungodliness that is TUH and feel alive. I think the best way to summarize what TUH was for me, was the “Individuality Protection Week” we enacted; first read on the November 8th, 2003 and repeated on the October 5th, 2007 show. From the bottom of my dark, ungodly heart, I want to thank each and every one of you. Really, thank you for all the great memories.
To all the haters: frankly, I don't give a shit about you and what you think. If you email me to let me know how you feel, guess what? TUH has done it's job.
To all the lovers: yes, I love you too, and, guess what? TUH did it's job here as well.
As the one who gave it birth, I think it's fitting I put it to rest; TUH, it's been a blast. As always...stay cool and ungodly. Catch you ungodly kids on the flip-side.
